Heat Shrinkable Terminal Head Mould Cap: 2:1
A pre-formed cap that recovers 2:1 over the head of an LV cable termination: cross-linked PE, ≤1kV, -55℃~+125℃, IEC 60684, ID Φ6–45mm, black/red. The formed nose closes the conductor exit and the body wraps the assembled head: the finish a cut sleeve edge cannot give, at a production-friendly cycle time.

The molded part's function in the assembly
An LV termination is a stack: cable insulation rebuilt over the conductor, sealing at the sheath, and a head where the conductor leaves for the lug. A cut tube finishes that head as an open rim. The rim has to be closed with tape or adhesive as a separate, forgettable step. The mould cap is that closing step built into the part: the nose forms around the conductor exit, the body recovers 2:1 concentrically over the head, and the finished termination ends in a continuous moulded profile. It is the last component installed, and the one the inspector sees.
Geometry and sizing inputs
Two measurements select the cap. The termination head's largest section (lug or connector included) must pass through the supplied ID (Φ6–45mm range). The cable insulation where the cap ends must be gripped by the recovered ID at 2:1. Send both plus the conductor size, and we return the cap code; where a build mixes head sizes, the caps can be kitted per termination type.
Installation sequence
- Slide the cap on first. The head's largest section must pass through it : after assembly is too late.
- Build the termination per the accessory kit's sequence.
- Draw the cap over the finished head, seated so the body overlaps onto the cable insulation.
- Recover body-to-nose with an even hot-air pass so air escapes at the conductor exit, not into the cap.
- Cool and inspect: the formed profile should hold with no gloss patches or relaxed rim.
Assembly-level limits
The cap's ≤1kV and -55℃~+125℃ ratings are component figures. A completed termination is an assembly whose limits are set by all of its parts (the accessories and cable beneath the cap), so read the cap as the outer skin of the termination, not as the assembly's rating sheet.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a terminal head mould cap, and where does it sit in the assembly?
It is a pre-formed cap (not a cut length of tubing) that recovers 2:1 over the head of an LV termination. In the assembly it is the last part: the cable's insulating layers are built first, the conductor leaves through the cap's nose, and the cap closes the assembled head with a formed profile that a cut sleeve edge cannot produce. The cap is the termination's outer skin, ≤1kV duty.
Why choose a molded cap over a cut piece of tubing?
A cut sleeve finishes as an open rim that must be closed somehow, usually with tape or an adhesive ring someone has to remember. The moulded shape does that closing work in the part itself: a formed nose around the conductor exit and a body that recovers concentrically over the head. At production volumes the result is also faster: position the cap, heat, done, with one less operator judgement step.
How do we size the cap?
Size by 2:1 recovery over the termination head: the supplied ID (Φ6–45mm range) must pass the head's largest section (lug or connector included), and the recovered ID must grip the cable insulation where the cap ends. If the exit conductor is bare, check the nose diameter suits the conductor with its insulation stripped per the termination drawing.
What is the installation sequence?
Slide the cap onto the cable before the termination is assembled. The head's largest section has to pass through it. Build the termination, draw the cap over the finished head, then recover with an even hot-air pass from the body toward the nose so air escapes at the conductor exit. The wall is medium-gauge; it recovers quickly and holds the formed profile on cooling.
What temperature and voltage is the cap rated for?
The cross-linked PE body is rated ≤1kV with a continuous service range of -55℃~+125℃. Both figures are cap-level ratings: the completed termination's limits are those of the full assembly: the accessories and cable below the cap set what the termination as a whole survives.
Which standards and colors apply?
The cap is built to IEC 60684 and RoHS, in black and red. Batch certificates are supplied on request; name your target market and we align the documentation. The red cap is commonly used where the termination head doubles as phase identification: confirm the colour convention on your project before ordering.
