0.6/1kV Heat Shrink Cable Accessories: LV Kits
Low-voltage heat-shrink kits for 0.6/1kV cable terminations and intermediate joints. Polyolefin/silicone component sets recover with a hot-air gun into a sealed insulation system over the prepared cable, in single-core, 3-core and 4-core formats, phase-colored, indoor and outdoor versions, service range -50℃~+125℃, referenced to IEC 60502.

What the kit does at low voltage
At 0.6/1kV the kit has two jobs: rebuild the insulation over the connection and seal it against moisture. The polyolefin tubes are radiation cross-linked, expanded onto mandrels and cooled, so they hold their supplied size until a hot-air pass recovers them onto the cable; where the design includes adhesive or mastic layers, they flow during the same heating step and seal the interface. What the kit does not contain is a stress-control layer. The electric field at LV does not require one, which is why LV kits have fewer components than the 8.7/15kV and 26/35kV sets. If a supplier quotes you "stress control" on a 0.6/1kV joint, the component count, not the marketing, should justify it.
Termination sets and joint sets
The two positions need different boxes. A termination set finishes one cable end at equipment: a panel, a motor box, a LV switchboard. It insulates and seals the cut end and, for multi-core cable, includes the breakout that separates the cores. A joint set (intermediate joint) connects two cable ends mid-run: it rebuilds the insulation across the connector and reseals over the sheath cut. Both exist in indoor and outdoor versions; the outdoor termination adds weather-shed components for a end that must shed water. Count your positions by type before ordering. A termination set will not joint two cables, and a joint set has no breakout for an end.
How the kit is selected
Kit selection runs on four inputs, all of which you can read off the cable drum and the drawing:
- Insulation OD. Kits are sized by the recovered range over the insulation : measure over each core, and over the core bundle for the outer sleeves. Send the connector/lug dimensions too so the supplied ID is verified to slide over them.
- Core count and arrangement. Single-core, 3-core and 4-core sets differ in breakout and bundle-sized parts.
- Indoor or outdoor duty. Sets the sealing and weather-shed components on terminations.
- Termination or joint. Sets the component family entirely.
Installation sequence
The order below is the LV heat-shrink sequence; each step's dimensions come with the kit instructions:
- Prepare the cable. Cut to position, strip the sheath and insulation to the lengths the position requires, and leave the cut faces clean.
- Slide components on before connecting. Every tube goes over the cable end before the connector is crimped : a forgotten tube means undoing the joint.
- Make the connection. Crimp the lug or the joint connector; at a joint position, complete the conductor connection first.
- Recover from the inside out. Sealing components first over the connector, then the insulating tubes, then the outer sleeve : each with an even hot-air pass, working from the connection point outward so air does not pocket under the wall.
- Let the adhesive do its pass. Adhesive/mastic layers flow during recovery; the seal is complete when the wall is uniformly recovered with no glossy un-melted patches.
Frequently asked questions
What does a 0.6/1kV heat-shrink accessory kit contain?
Each set is built for one position: a termination set contains the insulating tubes, sealing components and breakout parts for one cable end, while an intermediate joint set contains the joint body and outer sleeves for one connection. Components are phase-colored for multi-core cable. The exact part list per kit size is confirmed when we quote: send the cable schedule and we return the itemized contents.
How is the kit size matched to my cable?
By insulation outside diameter and core count, not by the cable's nominal size alone. Measure the insulation OD over each core (and over the core bundle for multi-core positions), state the cross-section and the 3/4/single-core arrangement, and we select the kit whose recovered range grips your insulation. If you also send the connector or lug dimensions, we verify the supplied ID slides over them before quoting.
Can this kit be used outdoors?
Yes, outdoor termination and joint versions are part of the range. Outdoor sets include weather-shed and sealing components that indoor sets omit, because the finished end must shed water and resist UV. Confirm the duty per position when ordering: an indoor set should not be substituted outdoors.
What heating equipment does installation need?
A hot-air gun with controlled airflow is the standard tool. The polyolefin components recover under even heating, and adhesive or mastic layers flow during the same pass to seal. If your site bans open flame or has no power (manholes, refineries, confined spaces) ask for the cold-shrink equivalent instead of improvising with a torch.
Do these LV kits reference IEC 60502?
The kits are referenced to IEC 60502, the LV cable-system standard. The kit's compliance is one input: the completed termination or joint also depends on the cable construction, workmanship and the testing your project applies to the finished installation. Batch certificates are issued per shipment; tell us your target market and we align the documentation.
What is the difference between the single-core, 3-core and 4-core sets?
The number of cores changes the geometry, not the material. Multi-core sets include breakout components that separate the cores where they leave the sheath, and the outer sleeves are sized over the core bundle. Single-core sets have no breakout stage. Ordering a 3-core set for a 4-core cable leaves you short parts on site: state the core count per position.
