Hook-and-Loop / Zipper Textile Sleeve

Hook-and-Loop / Zipper Textile Sleeve is a nylon-blend fabric sleeve that opens flat along its length, wraps around the bundle and closes again in seconds: the repeat-access construction for cable management where runs change often. Two closure versions exist and are distinguished below: a hook-and-loop fastener strip and a zipper. "Hook-and-loop" is used throughout as the generic term; it is not a claim of any brand-name fastener unless stated at order stage. Catalogued range is -70 °C to +170 °C with UL94 V2, both pending verification. HTL series, ID Φ12–Φ44 mm; send the bundle diameter and we return the size.

What the sleeve is and how the closure works

The body is a woven nylon-blend textile panel. Along its two edges runs the closure, and the closure is what makes this a service product rather than a one-piece loom: wrapped around the bundle, the edges mate and hold along the full length; peeled, the panel opens flat and any cable can be added or removed without disconnecting a connector or cutting anything off. Hook-and-loop holds by thousands of small hooks engaging a loop pile. It closes anywhere along the strip and takes lint with use, which is brushed out. A zipper holds by a slider running a formed track: it seals tighter against dust and snag but wears at the slider, not the track. Which fastener your line gets is confirmed at order stage; this page uses "hook-and-loop" as the generic closure term throughout and does not claim any brand-name fastener unless the verified brand is stated in the order. The fabric wall dresses the bundle, takes abrasion against furniture, floors and rack rails, and quietens cable rattle in equipment interiors.

Where Hook-and-Loop / Zipper Textile Sleeve is used

Primary applications: Office and audio cable management. Desks, studios and racks where bundles are adjusted, extended and re-routed often enough that a cut-to-open sleeve wastes the sleeve every time.

How to select the right size

The closure changes two sizing rules:

Send the bundle diameter range, closure preference, length and quantity and we return the HTL size.

Common Failure Modes & How to Prevent Them

These are the issues most often seen when installing or specifying Hook-and-Loop / Zipper Textile Sleeve, with the root cause and the prevention or fix for each.

The closure peeled open on a tight bend

Root cause: The seam was installed on the inside of a bend, so the bundle's flexing load pressed on the fastener line and walked it open.

Fix: Put the closure on the outside of bends, or clamp it clear of the radius. Where the route gives no choice, add a tie over the closed seam at the bend.

Hook-and-loop lost its grip in a dusty space

Root cause: Lint and debris packed into the mating strip, so the hooks could not engage the pile.

Fix: Brush the strip clean, the grip returns. In permanently dusty spaces, choose the zipper version, which seals the closure behind a track.

The zipper slider wore out before the textile

Root cause: The run was opened far more often than the closure's duty assumed, and the slider (not the fabric) is the wear part.

Fix: Match the closure to the service rhythm: daily access takes hook-and-loop, scheduled access takes the zipper. A worn slider means replacing that sleeve length; a tired hook-and-loop strip is brushed or replaced in place.

The V2 class was quoted from the page, not the report

Root cause: The catalogued UL94 V2 was read as a verified finished-product rating. The test file behind it (sample, thickness, whether the fastener strip was in the tested assembly) is unverified at source.

Fix: Where a spec calls V2, request the report at RFQ and design in against the document. No report, no claim.

It sat near a heat source and the closure let go

Root cause: The catalogued -70/+170 °C envelope was treated as verified, and in reality the fastener's adhesive backing softened before the fabric.

Fix: Treat the range as pending verification, confirm the local temperature with us, and keep the sleeve clear of hot surfaces, or step up to a higher-temperature construction for that section.

Frequently asked questions

Is the closure hook-and-loop, zipper, or available in both versions?

Both closures exist in this family and they are different products on the same textile body. Hook-and-loop: the fastener strip mates along the sleeve edge, holds in seconds and peels anywhere along its length, which suits bundles that change often. Zipper: the closure runs on a tracked slider, seals more completely against dust and snag, and suits runs opened on a schedule rather than constantly. State which closure your line needs when you ask for the HTL size.

Can it be repeatedly opened for service?

Yes, repeat access is the entire purpose of the construction. Hook-and-loop keeps its grip through many peel cycles; the practical limit is lint and debris loading on the mating strip, which is brushed out rather than replaced. A zipper wears on its slider, and a worn slider means replacing that sleeve length. For runs opened daily, hook-and-loop ages cheaper; for runs opened monthly, either holds.

What does the UL94 V2 claim apply to?

As catalogued, UL94 V2 applies to the sleeve material, but the test file behind the claim (which sample, which thickness, whether the sewn fastener strip was part of the tested assembly) has not been verified at source, so the rating is pending confirmation. Where a spec calls V2 on the finished installed sleeve, ask for the report before design-in; we supply it with the order or we do not claim the class.

How much bundle does each closure take?

The sleeve closes with overlap, so the bundle diameter must sit inside the HTL size with enough slack for the fastener edges to mate. A bundle at the top of a size's range strains the closure and the next size up is the answer. The exact bundle band per HTL size is part of the pending size table. Send the measured bundle OD at its largest point and we return the size.

What bends and branches can the sleeve follow?

The textile body bends with the bundle and the closure holds around gentle radii, but a tight bend loaded against the closure seam can peel it: put the seam on the outside of the bend or clamp it clear. Branches exit by opening the closure at that point and closing it behind the breakout; nothing is cut, so the same sleeve serves a re-routed bundle.

How does the -70 to +170 °C range hold in service?

The catalogued range is pending verification, so treat it as an envelope, not a confirmed continuous rating. The practical check is the closure: adhesive-backed fastener tapes soften before the fabric does, and near heat sources the closure lets go before the textile fails. Send the local temperature and we confirm the applicable limit, or move the run to a higher-temperature construction.
